La controversia se hizo presente y mientras de
un lado está el dueño de los Yankees, George
Steinbrenner, en la otra esquina el protagonista
es el agente de Jason Giambi por la renuencia de
éste a responder a preguntas de la prensa sobre
su testimonio ante el jurado investigador en el
caso del uso de esteroides. "El tribunal dijo a
Jason que podía decir lo que quisiera", dijo
Steinbrenner. "El tribunal le dio permiso. Y Arn
Tellem dice que no". "Simplemente, no me gusta
ese tipo", agregó Steinbrenner acerca de Tellem,
el agente de Giambi y de Hideki Matsui.
En diciembre, el diario San Francisco Chronicle
reportó que Giambi dijo a un jurado investigador
federal en el 2003 que él había usado
esteroides. Giambi se disculpó durante una
conferencia de prensa en Nueva York el 10 de
febrero, pero nunca explicó por qué se
disculpaba.
Tellem dijo que las autoridades habían pedido a
Giambi que no discutiese públicamente su
testimonio. Steinbrenner arribó al Legends Field
el sábado en la mañana y pasó junto a Tellem,
que estaba hablando con reporteros acerca de las
negociaciones para extender el contrato de
Matsui. Tellem dijo que no se toma los
comentarios de Steinbrenner como cosa personal,
y agregó que no afectan para nada las
conversaciones sobre el contrato de Matsui.

Controversy presented itself within the New York
Yankees clubhouse. On one side of it is owner,
George Steinbrenner and on the other, Jason
Giambi’s agent, Arn Tellem. The rift is due to
the player not answering the media’s questions
regarding his testimony to the grand jury on
steroid use. “The courts told Giambi he could
say whatever he wanted,” Steinbrenner said. “The
courts gave him permission and Arn Tellem said
no. "I just don’t like the guy,” Steinbrenner
added about Tellem, the agent for Giambi and
Hideki Matsui. In December, the San Francisco
Chronicle newspaper reported that Jason Giambi
testified before a federal grand jury in 2003
that he had used steroids. Giambi said that he
was sorry in a press conference on February 10th
in New York but he did not say for what he was
sorry. Tellem said that the authorities had told
Giambi not to disclose anything public about his
testimony. Steinbrenner arrived at Legends Field
on Saturday morning and passed by Tellem who was
speaking with reporters about Matsui contract
extension. Tellem said he does not take
Steinbrenner’s words personally. He added that
it would not affect conversations in regards to
Matsui’s contract.
