BOSTON — Latinobaseball.com, the premier website on the history of Latino ballplayers in the Major Leagues, will pay tribute to David “Big Papi” Ortiz with its 2016 Player of the Year Award on Dominican Republic Day at Fenway Park on July 27, 2016, prior to the Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers game at 1:35 p.m. game.

“It will be an honor to present the greatest clutch player of his era the Latinobaseball.com 2016 Player of the Year Award for his amazing accomplishments on and off the field, and his humility and commitment to his fellow man,” said Ralph Paniagua, publisher of Latinobaseball.com.

“Papi Ortiz has made all Dominicans proud with his amazing success on the field of play and off the field with his gentlemanly manner. It’s a proud day for all of us that we are celebrating this man at Fenway Park where he has brought so much joy to Red Sox fans and to Dominicans and Latinos around the world,” Paniagua added.

Latinobaseball.com has presented the Player of the Year Award to Latino players for more than 20 years. This year’s award is sponsored by the Dominican Republic Tourism Board.

“Papi Ortiz continues the great legacy of Latino baseball players since their arrival in MLB in the early 1900s. And fans can visit the site to become more familiar with those legendary players that came before Mr. Ortiz,” said Beto Villa of Latinobaseball.com.
