NYC’S ALL-STARS TAKE TO THE FIELD FOR THE OTHER POST-SEASON BASEBALL CLASSIC:
THE FIRST-EVER DAILY NEWS NEW YORK CITY
URBAN YOUTH BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

WHAT: The city’s best youth baseball teams will compete in the first-ever Daily News New York City Urban Youth Baseball Tournament, sponsored by LatinoBaseball.com, on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, 2006. The Tournament will feature four all-star youth baseball teams made up of players from Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan. The teams will comprise 11- and 12-year-old members from select youth baseball leagues within those boroughs. Tournament participants will receive baseball gloves, bats and baseballs courtesy of Spalding.

“We are proud to sponsor the inaugural New York City Urban Youth Baseball Tournament, which will give kids from around the city another opportunity to play the game they love, in front of their families, friends, and fans of baseball,” said John Campi, Vice President of Promotions and Community Affairs for the Daily News. “We look forward to working with LatinoBaseball.com and others to establish what will become another fall classic in New York City.”

“This program has been a long time coming,” said Ralph Paniagua, President and CEO of LatinoBaseball.com. “Our children deserve the opportunity to play baseball on a championship level, while enjoying themselves and meeting kids from other parts of the city. Our hope is that this Tournament will grow from year to year, and that we can eventually invite kids not just from New York City, but from all over the country to participate.”
