THIS DAY IN BÉISBOL: September 24: Jose Ramirez hits grand slam and 3-run HR after return from IL

After missing a month because of a fractured bone in his wrist, Jose Ramirez returned to the Cleveland lineup in grand fashion on this day in béisbol in 2019, belting a grand slam and a three-run homer in an 11-0 win over the White Sox.
The star third baseman slugged the salami in the first inning batting lefty, then followed that up in his next at-bat with the three-run dinger from the right side.
Ramirez fractured his hamate bone in his right wrist in late August after fouling off a pitch in a game against the Royals. He was expected to miss the rest of the season, but his remarkably quick recovery from surgery was too late to help the Indians, who won 93 games but failed to make the postseason for the first time in four years.
Also on this day: Arizona fans were treated to a surprise double-header of sorts, with the Diamondbacks pulling off a 3-2 walk-off win over the Cardinals after 19 innings in 2019.
The game lasted six hours and 53 minutes and was the longest ever at Chase Field in terms of innings played. Utility infielder Ildelmaro Vargas, who came on in the ninth inning as a pinch hitter, belted a game-tying homer then drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 19th with a bases loaded single.
Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina, 37, was being the plate for the entire game, which saw 53 players including 24 pitchers take the field.
