NEWS: Brewers ace Freddy Peralta traded to New York Mets

The Mets continued their aggressive offseason roster moves by acquiring right-hander Freddy Peralta from the Brewers on January 21, adding a proven, high-strikeout starter to a reshaped rotation.

Peralta, 29, has been one of Milwaukee’s most reliable arms in recent years. He was the staff ace in 2025, sporting a 17-6 record, 2.70 ERA and 204 strikeouts in 173.2 innings.

Since transitioning full time to the rotation in 2021, the Dominican Republic native has posted a 3.30 ERA. For his career, he owns a 70-42 record, 3.59 ERA and 1,021 strikeouts in 843 innings, giving the Mets a swing-and-miss presence near the top of their staff.

In return, the Brewers received utility infielder Ronny Mauricio and right-handed pitching prospect Blade Tidwell, both 24.

Peralta’s arrival highlights a broader Mets roster reset. New York parted ways with several veterans via free agency and trades, opening roles for younger players, while also targeting impact additions.

Fan favorites Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, Jeff McNeil and reliever Edwin Diaz are gone. Coming to New York are center fielder Luis Robert Jr., third baseman Bo Bichette, second baseman Marcus Semien, and Jorge Polanco, who will play first. The bullpen has been bolstered by free agent relievers Devin Williams and Luke Weaver.
