NEWS: Yordan Alvarez named AL Player of the Week

Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros has been named American League Player of the Week after a dominant stretch to open the season, signaling a strong return to form following an injury-plagued 2025 campaign that limited the outfielder to 48 games.

Alvarez powered Houston’s offense, hitting .471 with three home runs, two doubles and eight RBI.

He delivered multiple clutch hits, including a go-ahead homer late in the week that helped secure a key series win for the Astros.

The honor marks a significant bounce-back for the slugger, who struggled to stay on the field in 2025 due to recurring injuries that limited both his playing time and production.

This was the third time the Cuban native, 28, has won AL Player of the week, the last coming in August 2024.
