THIS DAY IN BASEBALL October 8: Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez slugs grand slam in 2024 NLDS

On this day in beisbol, October 8, 2024, Teoscar Hernandez of the Dodgers hit a grand slam in Game 3 of the NLDS after the San Diego Padres had taken an early 6-0 lead.
The clutch based-loaded jack off of Pods starter Michael King makes the score 6-5 in favor of San Diego, but it fails to shift the momentum much for Los Angeles as both teams stop scoring after the third inning.
The Padres took a 2-1 lead in the best of five series, but the Dodgers bounced back to win the NLDS, then beat the Mets in the NLCS.
Hernandez, who joined Los Angeles as a free agent before the 2024 season after a year with the Seattle Mariners, then helped lead the Dodgers past the Yankees in the World Series, in which the Dominican-born outfielder hit .350.
Also on this day: During Game 2 of the 1972 ALCS, Oakland Athletics shortstop Bert Campaneris, upset at being hit in the ankle by a fastball from Detroit Tigers pitcher Lerrin LaGrow, hurled his bat at the mound and barely missed hitting LaGrow in the head. As the benches cleared, Tigers manager Billy Martin had to be held back by the umpires after going after Campaneris.
The Cuban native, who was enjoying a 3-for-3 day and felt the pitch was intentional, was tossed out of the game and suspended for the rest of the series.
In 1995, future Hall of Famer Edgar Martinez of the Mariners doubles in the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the 11th inning of a thrilling Game 5 of the ALDS against the Yankees. The heartbreaking loss for New York came after they won the first two games at home, then lost the next three at Seattle. Martinez batted .571 with 10 RBI in the five games.
