NEWS: Red Sox on short winning streak after firing of manager Alex Cora

The Boston Red Sox are, at least for now, back on a winning track after stunning the baseball world this week with the abrupt firing of manager Alex Cora despite flashes of life from a struggling club.

The move came after a disappointing 10–17 start to the 2026 season, a record that ultimately cost Cora and five coaches their jobs even as the team showed signs of turning things around.

Cora departs Boston with an impressive overall managerial record of 619–541, highlighted by a World Series championship in 2018 in which the Red Sox set a franchise record with 108 wins, plus a handful of postseason appearances.

His tenure, however, was marked by inconsistency in recent years and mounting pressure following slow starts and underperforming rosters.

What makes the decision even more shocking is the timing. The Red Sox had just begun to show signs of momentum, putting together a short winning stretch that hinted at a potential turnaround. Players were reportedly caught off guard by the move, with some questioning the direction of the organization as it tries to salvage the season.

Now under interim manager Chad Tracy, Boston is attempting to build on that brief surge and reset its identity. Whether the firing sparks a sustained turnaround or deepens instability remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the Red Sox are betting that a dramatic change in leadership can reignite a season that was already teetering on the brink.
