NEWS: Astros star Carlos Correa out for season with ankle injury

Just when things couldn’t get any worse, the struggling Houston Astros suffered a crushing blow this week as Carlos Correa was ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 season with a severe ankle injury.
Correa was injured in a freak incident in the batting cage during a swing and immediately feeling a sharp pop that forced him to stop his workout, the Astros said Wednesday. Tests later revealed a torn tendon that will require surgery and a six to eight month recovery period, ending his season.
The loss is especially damaging for an Astros club already mired in fourth place in the AL West at seven games under .500. Playing both third base and shortstop, the 31-year-old native of Ponce, Puerto Rico had been producing at a steady clip, slashing .279/.369/.418 with 3 home runs and 16 RBI while again serving as one of the team’s most respected clubhouse leaders in his second go-round with Houston.
The Astros have been hit hard by injuries all season, including the absence of shortstop Jeremy Peña, leaving the infield depleted. Without Correa’s bat and leadership, the Astros face an even steeper climb with their postseason hopes growing increasingly remote.
